Cancer Battle to Health Setbacks: Park Mi-sun, Ahn Sung-ki, and Park Bom in Korean Entertainment [Spotlight: Focus]

Celebrity health struggles and resilience in Korea’s entertainment scene

Comedian Park Mi-sun recently appeared in a teaser for a variety show, signaling a bright update with a short haircut as she returns after cancer treatment. Even through chemotherapy, Park Mi-sun did not lose her signature cheerfulness, joking that she looked like Furiosa from Mad Max when she shaved her head. Last year, after a breast cancer diagnosis, she paused broadcasting to focus on treatment, and early detection during a health checkup helped keep the treatment on track.

Renowned actor Ahn Sung-ki has been battling health issues following a relapse of blood cancer. He was diagnosed with lymphoma in 2019 and, after a period of recovery, the cancer recurred, limiting his public appearances. Fans have expressed hope to see the actor’s smile again and have offered supportive messages across social media.

Singer Park Bom, who had paused activities due to health concerns, posted a series of photos on social media about two weeks after announcing the halt, sparking renewed interest. Her agency stated that she is currently emotionally unstable and needs treatment and rest, and that settlements related to 2NE1 activities have been completed. Fans view Park Bom’s SNS posts as a sign of recovery, while industry observers urge continued focus on her health above all.
