TVING and Disney+ Team Up to Enter Japan’s Home Market, Accelerating Global K-OTT Platform Expansion

About 60 Korean dramas to roll out; Disney+ Japan partnership marks a strategic entry into APAC and beyond.

TVING, Korea’s leading OTT service, is entering the Japanese market through a long-term content collaboration with The Walt Disney Company Japan and Disney+. The company announced that, together with its parent CJ ENM, it has signed a multi-year content deal with Disney+ and will officially launch the TVING Collection on Disney+ Japan starting on the 5th. This marks the first time Disney+ has opened a local OTT brand channel in the Asia-Pacific region.

Through the TVING Collection within Disney+ Japan, Japanese viewers will have access to TVING originals and CJ ENM’s hit titles. From the 5th, about 60 popular Korean dramas including Goblin and Reply 1988 will be released sequentially. On the 6th, TVING’s original series Dear X will be released simultaneously in 19 countries, including Korea and Japan, on Disney+.

This partnership is expected to minimize entry risk in Japan by leveraging Disney+’s strong local brand power, helping TVING establish itself as a leading platform for Korean content. A representative of The Walt Disney Company Japan described the collaboration as an important milestone in Disney+’s content lineup expansion, highlighting the synergy between Korean storytelling and Disney+.

TVING plans to use this collaboration as a springboard to accelerate its growth as a global K-OTT platform. The company intends 2025 to be the year of overseas expansion, starting with Japan and the Asia-Pacific region and expanding to the United States and Latin America through a multi-faceted approach. TVING CEO Choi Joo-hee said that they will strive to move beyond Korea’s No.1 status to become a global K-OTT platform.
