ILLIT broadens its musical range ahead of the new release
ILLIT is delivering an uncanny yet captivating transformation as the group teases a broader musical range that aligns with their name and raises anticipation for their upcoming release. The members—Yoona, Minju, Mocha, Wonhee, and Iroha—recently released all concept photos for their single NOT CUTE ANYMORE, set to drop on the 24th, revealing more than just cute charm.
In the NOT CUTE version, the group showcases a kitschy yet chic vibe, while the NOT MY NAME version presents a cool and wild sensibility that appears to be uniquely ILLIT. The most striking shift is seen in the MV moving poster, which features a pink tombstone with the words “CUTE IS DEAD” and a bold visual of Mocha, evoking a cinematic mystery.
The title track NOT CUTE ANYMORE is described as a song that directly expresses a desire not to be defined by cuteness alone, signaling a musical direction different from what they have previously offered. The song’s teaser videos are scheduled to drop on the 21st and 23rd, ahead of the full release. The group’s agency notes that fans can expect a broader musical spectrum from ILLIT.
Notably, producer Jasper Harris, who has worked on top-charting tracks, contributed to NOT CUTE ANYMORE, with additional input from Sasha Alex Sloan and Youra, signaling a collaborative push for a new sound. The label Billy Lab expressed excitement for ILLIT’s expanding musical range. The project has generated buzz among fans, including a sticker challenge dubbed by the 1020 generation, along with phrases like “I am not defined by cuteness” and “Cuteness alone isn’t enough” associated with the Little Mimi character.
The song and music video are set to be released on the 24th at 6:00 PM local time, with teaser content released earlier to build anticipation.
