Korean film awards to resume after two-year hiatus

The Daesang Film Festival, Korea’s oldest film awards, is set to return next year after a two-year hiatus. The organizers announced that the festival will be held in April 2026, marking its 60th edition.

On the same day, the Korean Film Arts Association announced that it had officially transferred the festival’s trademark rights. An official from the association said they are preparing for the 60th edition to be held in April next year, expressing determination to mount an event that brings together filmmakers and artists despite past challenges.

The festival began in 1962 and is widely regarded as Korea’s oldest film festival. It had not been held for two years following the bankruptcy of the Federation of Korean Filmmakers in 2023.
