Where tradition meets modernity: the second stage of “K-pan, K-pop”

The National Museum of Iksan will stage a special performance on Saturday, November 15 at 2 p.m., reimagining key scenes from the traditional pansori Chunhyangga with a contemporary musical sensibility. This show, following October’s first performance, marks the second installment in the “K-pan, K-pop” series, blending the emotional depth of pansori with modern K-pop expression to offer a more expansive musical experience. The event will take place in the museum’s lobby and admission is free.

Like the previous show, Professor Kim Jung-bae of Wonkwang University will return as a narrator to convey Chunhyangga’s story and emotions more deeply.

The cast includes the pansori singer Park Ga-bin and master Shin Dong-seon, who preserve traditional resonance. They are joined by Inmun Band Rye, featuring guitarist Lee Sang-wook, violinists Shin Ina and Song Dong-jun, cellist Kim Ju-bin, and haegeum player Shim Jae-rin, along with guest soprano Park Seo-jeong. Together they reinterpret the classical pansori narrative with a contemporary sensibility, delivering a moving performance that crosses tradition and modern.

A museum official said the show expands the emotion of traditional pansori through modern K-pop, continuing Chunhyangga’s narrative in a modern, integrated performance.
