Cumulative audience hits around 69,081 as word-of-mouth and celebrity support boost momentum.
Owner of the World, the new feature from director Yoon Ga-eun, is gaining momentum at the Korean box office as audiences respond with strong word-of-mouth. As of the 3rd, the film has drawn 69,081 admissions, according to the Korea Film Council’s integrated ticketing system. The movie is being hailed as one of this year’s standout Korean indie titles, with audiences surpassing the director’s previous works Our People and Our Home, fueling hopes of reaching 100,000 admissions.
Despite a reduction in screens compared to opening, the film continues to attract crowds. On opening week’s Sunday, it posted a 16.2% seat occupancy, and on the 29th, the figure rose to 19.1%, indicating growing momentum. The film’s continued appeal is being cited as meaningful given the slower expansion of screens in its second week.
During the second weekend, the movie drew 17,724 attendees, with a weekend average occupancy of 15.4%. Among titles in the top 10, it remains the only film to maintain double-digit occupancy for five consecutive days, fueling expectations for further growth. A concise synopsis notes that the story centers on an enigmatic high school senior who refuses to participate in a school-wide petition and then receives a mysterious note.
Celebrity endorsements have also helped sustain momentum. Park Bo-young, Jung Yu-mi, Jeon Ye-bin, Kang Ha-na, Kang Ye-won, and Moon Jung-hee publicly promoted the film on social media, lending support to its ascent. In addition, senior figures Kim Hye-soo, Song Eun-i, Kim Tae-ri, and Kim Ui-sung reportedly organized relay screenings, with ongoing inquiries from the public about participation. All these elements contribute to broadening the film’s cultural footprint as it continues its run. The reception around Owner of the World is shaping up to be a talking point for Korean independent cinema.
