October Movie Market Revenue Reaches 982 Billion Won, Up Over 200 Billion Won from September

October’s box office revenue reached 982 billion won, up from September’s 778 billion won. The rise was helped by mid-range performances from Korean films like Boss and Cannot Be Helped during the Chuseok holidays, while foreign titles, including Japanese anime, also drew audiences.

The figure sits near the year’s peak achieved in July, when revenue hit 1,147 billion won. Year-over-year, October’s revenue rose by more than 367 billion won from 615 billion won, and month-over-month it was up by over 200 billion won.

Crowds flocked to cinemas over the holiday period, with Boss taking the top spot on opening day and drawing about 2.41 million attendees overall. Park Chan-wook’s Cannot Be Helped also drew more than 1.67 million attendees in October, ranking third and bringing its total to about 2.91 million.

Other top titles included Chainsaw Man: The Reze Arc, Demon Slayer: Infinity Train, and One Battle After Another, all ranking among the top five.

In the independent/art-house segment, Yun Ka-eun’s World’s Owner and Jafar Panahi’s It Was Just an Accident drew strong audience support. World’s Owner has attracted close to 60,000 viewers, while It Was Just an Accident has drawn around 36,000 so far.
