Cha Jun-hwan posted a total score of 75.61 (TES 33.92, PCS 41.69) in the ISU Figure Skating Senior Grand Prix Series, Event 2 in Chongqing’s Wudong Arena, finishing seventh. There was a painful mistake on his jumps. The quad Salchow-triple toe loop combination received a GOE deduction of 2.63. To make up for it, he attempted a quad toe loop solo but landed it as a single and was scored a zero. Fortunately, his non-jump elements — the Flying Camell Spin, the Change-Foot Sit Spin, the Step Sequence, and the Change-Foot Combination Spin — were all graded at level 4. He was the only competitor to post a PCS in the 41-point range, offsetting the jump shortcomings. Japan’s Shun Sato led the standings with a total of 94.13 points, followed by Italy’s Daniele Grassl with 90.42 points. Third place went to Kazakhstan’s Mikail Shaydrov, who scored 88.33 points. Cha Jun-hwan is set to compete in the Free Skate on the 25th at 7:40 p.m. to seek redemption.
