Park Chan-wook has revealed that his new film There’s No Way I Can Help It has won the Best Director prize at the 58th Sitges Film Festival. Sitges, the genre festival held in Spain, showcases fantasy, horror and other genre cinema, and is counted among the world’s three leading genre festivals alongside Belgium’s Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival and Portugal’s Fantasporto in Porto.

The director’s relationship with Sitges runs deep. He has previously forged a close connection with the festival, taking the Grand Prize for Oldboy in 2004, the FX Award for Three, Monster in 2004, the Best Screenplay for I’m a Cyborg, But That’s OK in 2007, and the Audience Award for The Handmaiden in 2017.

There’s No Way I Can Help It was invited to compete in the Competition section at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival at the end of August, marking the first Korean film to be invited to competition in 13 years. Shortly thereafter, it also won the International Audience Award at the Toronto International Film Festival.
